Poem with variations

Chasing Dewdrops

"Dewdrops exist but for a moment
and die with the morning Sun."
The pearls of her laughter
Those giggles, those blushes:
Pangs of a first, intense love.
Dewdrops.

The ant waits upon them
for the water of life;
Does not the heart?
Scorched though it be
by defeat and pain.
Chase we not dewdrops?

First variation
(suggested by Suniti)

"Dewdrops exist but for a moment
to die with the morning Sun."

The laughter, the giggles,
the blushes,
the elation of first love,

Scorched though it be
by defeat and pain.
Chase we not dewdrops?

Second variation
(suggested by Alaka)

"Dewdrops exist but for a moment
and die with the morning Sun."
The pearls of her laughter
Those giggles, those blushes:
Pangs of a first, intense love.
Dewdrops.
The ant waits upon them
for the water of life;
Would not the heart?

The first two lines in quotes:
"Dewdrops exist but for a moment
and die with the morning Sun."

were borrowed from my friend Samudrika.
