Mumbai Senryu

It's said time cycles
anew every January.
Beginnings excite.

Hopes not extinguished
flicker in February.
Resolutions break.

Many worries plague
a sweating tropical March.
Income-tax bothers.

All Fools' Day begins
the new financial year's hopes.
April blooms delight.

Hot hotter hottest.
May vacation trains run full.
Home beckons the sick.

It is now time to
buy uniforms and raincoats.
June explodes in green.

Puddles delight me
though city folk just plod on.
Rain defines July.

Floods of joy or tears
as August rain so chooses.
Water: life and death.

Bappa Morya comes
visiting in September.
Revelry is peace.

October goes from
verdant to yellow to brown.
All things must decay.

November twilight
like the year's forsaken cause.
Endings agonise.

December morals:
Time dies, time cycles again.
New things will happen.
