Six Elderly Aunts

Six elderly aunts had I
Six nagging, bragging souls.
At family weddings I
Am the poor one they'd hold.

"You're next, you're next!" they tease me
"You're next in line to go!"
"Tied up in matrimony,
You'll not long be solo."

"We'll tie you with apron-strings,
Bind you with bridal charms.
We've found you a homely girl
Who with her smile disarms!"

Six elderly aunts had I
Six nagging, bragging souls.
Then Aunt Maragatham died,
For age must take its toll.

The five left are now solemn,
There's wedding talk no more.
"You're next, you're next!" I tell them,
"You're next in line to go!"
