Summer games

The creek plays catch-me-
if-you-can with the mangroves.
Summer is such fun.

The shadows and the
sun play games of hide-and-seek.
Summer is such fun.

The whistling wind plays
Chinese whispers with the trees.
Summer is such fun.

All hearts play follow-
the-leader with the koel.
Summer is such fun.

Scented flowers play
blind man's buff with butterflies.
Summer is such fun.

These were inspired by Children's Games (Kinderspiele), the 1560 painting by Peter Brueghel the Elder, now at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. I wonder how many of these games are still known to today's children?

An explanation of some of these games can be found at the website of the Elliott Avedon Museum & Archive of Games.
